The Kerala Story - Movie full of lessons

"The Kerala Story" is a visually stunning and emotionally charged film that takes audiences on a captivating journey through the rich cultural tapestry of South India's enchanting state, Kerala. Directed by a talented filmmaker, the movie delves into the lives of its diverse characters, exploring their dreams, struggles, and the undeniable beauty of the region and a conspiracy that was not explored before.

11.1 Exploration of the movie :

The Kerala Story is a 2023 Indian Hindi- language drama film directed by Stupido Sen and produced by Vipul Amruthlal Shah. Marketed as a true story, the film is premised on the Hindutva conspiracy theory of "love jihad.

'The Kerala Story' narrates the tales of three young girls from various regions of Kerala, with the primary focus on the story of Shalini, who is abducted and subsequently converted to Islam. Shalini is then radicalized and compelled to join ISIS as a terrorist.

It is centered around the alleged radicalization and conversion of young Hindu and Christian women to Islam in Kerala, after which they are forced to join ISIS. The film states that it's a true story of three young girls from different parts of Kerala.

11.2 Politics around the film :

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its associated organisation, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have supported the film. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi endorsed the film at an election rally in Karnataka, claimed that it had unearthed a conspiracy and alleged Indian National Congress, which opposed the film to support terrorism.

In Kerala, both the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Indian National Congress, the only two parties to have governed the state after since Independence, have objected to the film for spreading "communal misinformation".

In Tamil Nadu, protests were held by Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and multiple Muslim political organizations.

The film was made tax free in Madhya Pradesh as well as Uttar Pradesh. But the government of West Bengal banned the movie, characterizing the film as hate speech.

11.3 Learnings from the movie :

Important lessons that movie delivered to the audience:-

1) (Irrespective of which religion you are) Don't believe anyone's comment on your religion, go and check the real texts before believing anything. Otherwise a dangerous trap is waiting for you.

2) (Irrespective of you gender) Don't allow anyone to touch you before marriage or even after marriage if you are not comfortable. Because the opposite side can use that allowance for destroying you.

3) Respect your parents then anything else because they are the only security that you all have for life long. Otherwise it won't take time for others to trap you in a love story and make your life a hell.

4) Conversion is never a solution and no religion is greater than other one. So just don't allow anyone to brainwash your mind in any condition. Secularism means respecting not accepting. So just go through dictionary and point out your understanding.

5) Don't take any unprescribed medicine. Even if, your very close friend is giving you. You have internet, just google it and read about it. Even then, don't eat anything just like that. You never know, what other person might be planning against you.

6) Suicide is never a solution! Because coping up mechanism is always there for all the problems. Just consult some counselor if you are getting any such thought. Going to a counselor is not a sin! But committing suicide is definitely a sin.

7) Don't become too much ignorant. Because that will destroy your thinking skills. Think about all the things that are going in your mind and if somebody needs your help, just do that.

8) Fight for the trap at all the possible stage like Miss. Matthews in the movie, because your one courageous step can change many lives.

11.4 Conclusion :

Making a movie that deals with a sensitive topic based in true events is not an easy task. It requires a great deal of research, empathy, and courage. The movie makers deserve appreciation for taking up this challenge and creating a movie that sheds light on an important issue. Releasing the movie against all odds is a testament to their commitment to the story and their dedication to creating a meaningful movie. It is important to watch the movie, recommend it to others, and support the efforts of the filmmaker. Let's just appreciate the hard work and help make the movie a success.
