INDIA: An Epicenter of World Politics

India: An Epicenter of World Politics

1.1 Introduction: Amrit Kaal India

India celebrating 75 years of its independence is now world's largest and diverse democracy with 5th largest economy of the world From being one of the oldest civilization of the world to a country of 1/5 of the world's population it has always been a centre of attraction for the global world India has always been advertiser of "Vashudaiva Kutumbakam" A phrase from a Hindu text Maha Upanishad that describes world as one family.

1.2 India: Emergence from Balancing to leading Power

On October 5, 1949 “In the shadow of two giants India declares its independence from both power blocks but leans towards the West on some important issues" was quoted  in Eastern survey report by American institute of Pacific relations.

And now US central agency concludes “India is the most important 'Swing state' in the International system".

In brief this is India’s emergence at global platform. In words of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru "Real Internationalism” means "Promotion of global peace and shared prosperity". For the longest time India's foreign policy was essentially defensive though India's Non-Alignment aimed mainly at preventing U.S-Soviet hostility from undermining its security, autonomy and well being at a time when country was still relatively infirm. This Non-Alignment Policy worked for Delhi, it helped it in creating a new different image of its own at the international level. Delhi, surviving the cold war and now after 75 years of independence with strengthened economy and image at the highest level it takes its own stand on all major issues of the world, promotes International peace and security for all be it the leading economies or the regional developing ones.

1.3 India: A Global Player

India is now a global power due to its ability to achieve multi dimensional success in terms of improving its economic performance and wider regional integration acquiring effective military capabilities for power projection and sustaining its democracy successfully by accommodating the diverse ambitions of its people.

1.4 India & World Politics

The Earth is divided into seven major continents which are surrounded by five massive oceans. The centers' of world politics are not uniformly spread all around the continents but they are only constrained up to the leading economies having different visions and ideologies. 'International trade' and 'Geopolitical ties between two nations' are the key factors involved in shaping up of the world politics.

Post World War in 1945, Cold War came into existence which developed a tussle of being more powerful between two major powers of that time i.e. the West comprising of United States and the European Union & the other side stood Russia (that time U.S.S.R). The theory of Non-Alignment by India challenged the two global powers. With passage of time some regional players turned global such as China with an ideology of monopolizing the international trade. Here enters India being market for all with a foreign policy focused on sustainable developmental goals with promotion of International peace and global cooperation. India has always reached the demand of uniform representation at organizations such as United States. Delhi has been the voice of developing and under developed nations of the world. Being the world's largest democracy it talks about Human Rights. Providing humanitarian aid at times of war and pandemic, sending peacekeeping forces has helped India in creating a friendly image at the highest level. At times of major disputes among nations it has made all efforts to bring them on common table of dialogues and discussions. Being the member country of United Nations, BRICS and G20 India shares a common table with the leading economies; On the other hand it has been a key member in SAARC & SCO where it has helped its regional neighbors’.

EAM Dr. S Jaishankar at Globsec Summit, Bratislava quoted –

"Europe has to grow out of the mindset that Europe's problem's are world's problem but world's problem are not Europe's problem, if it's you it's yours,  if it's me it's mine " shows India's independent stand at the word politics and this is what an Amrit Kaal  India is all about.
